1. Sleep in Makeup
Something so many of us are guilty of is one of the worst things you could do to your skin. I get it, sometimes we get lazy and too tired to do simple things that could be costing us our looks and appearance. Not only does sleeping in makeup clog pores and increases excessive oil your skin, it also can cause skin irritations. Most makeup contains harmful chemicals that should not be absorbed into your skin. Therefore, it should only be worn temporarily and washed off each night. The few times I’ve accidentally fallen asleep in makeup, the next day my face felt stiff, clumped and yucky. The best feeling ever is to when you wake up with clear pores from having washed your face the night before.
2. Wash Your Face Only Once a Day
This is a huge mistake. You can’t expect to have perfect skin by catering to your skin only once a day. You should always cleanse your skin twice a day. Cleansing your skin twice a day helps to reduce clogged pores and rid your skin of dirt and grim that builds up during the day. It’s also not a good idea to over wash your face. Washing your skin more than twice a day will wash the moisture out of your skin, and this could cause over drying which could lead to acne and skin irritation. Skin must have a good balance to stay clear and smooth. My favorite skin balancer is Herbal Balancing Face Toner. I use it daily after washing my face twice a day. It balances out the oils in your skin, unclogs pores, fights acne and exfoliates! It’s hard finding products that do all of this in one. I also like that it’s in a spray bottle making it easy to use for people that stay on the go such as myself. If you are washing your face morning and night, you are doing it the right way. Your skin will thank you later.
3. Rub Your Skin
Rubbing skin causes darkness, dryness and irritation. Have you ever noticed that when you continually rub your eyes you look like a raccoon? The reason this happens is because when you rub your skin especially often in the same place you will experience post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. PIH is caused due to inflammation that is caused by injury of the skin. When you get a bump, bacteria develops under the skin. Bacteria causes inflammation. When the inflammation goes away, you are left with a dark spot (PIH). You must remember that your skin is delicate, and you must treat it as so. Rubbing your skin after washing it will cause dryness which leads to irritation. Rubbing is a habit that most people have, and some do it without realizing it. When washing your face, you should only pat your face dry. Same thing goes for the rest of your body after taking a shower or bath.
4. Skip Serums and Moisturizers
This is a big mistake. If you are not using moisturizers and serums on your skin, you are not helping your skin to shed the epidermis layer of your skin so that the new skin is brought to the surface. The epidermis is the outer part of your skin and when it becomes dry it becomes flaky, unpleasant looking and will cause irritation. As mentioned before, cleansers usually wash all the moisture out of your skin and if you do not put moisture back on your skin after washing it, you will be left with dry skin. When your skin is dry, the first thing you will experience is itchy skin. When you scratch dry skin, it opens your pores to allow toxins to come in. This is what causes skin irritation. The serum should be used before the moisturizer. Serums help to improve the texture and color of your skin. Most importantly it helps moisturizers to absorb better. Which is why it should be used before your moisturizer, not after. My absolute favorite serum is Radiant Silk Peptide Serum. I like it because it contains peptides and peptides are number one for diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. It also tightens my skin and gives it somewhat of a lift, but what I like about it the most is that it gets rid of dark spots and skin discoloration. The main skin lightener ingredient in it is bearberry extract which is a natural skin lightener and has been proven to be more effective than other unnatural skin lighteners such as hydroquinone. I use this serum twice a day after my toner. Thanks to this serum my skin feels and looks like silk. I simply cannot be without it. Everyone wants radiant glowing skin that stays looking young forever. This serum is the truth and you will want to add it to your skin care routine. Remember that washing your face should occur twice a day. Therefore, skin treatments should be applied twice a day as well.
5. Drink Very Little Water
This is the worst thing you could ever do. Not only is this bad for your health, but also bad for your skin. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is what is recommended for good health and for your skin to have a healthy glow. When you drink water, you get rid of free radicals and toxins inside your body. Drinking plenty of water will keep you hydrated and whatever is going on, on the inside of your body, will reflect on your skin.
6. Don’t Exercise
Come on, this should be a part of your weekly routine. Believe me I hate working out. I will never be a person that will lie and say I enjoy working out. I absolutely HATE IT. However, I make myself do it anyway. Not only to stay in shape and stay healthy, but because I know that working out increases your blood flow. The blood flow holds oxygen, and this is carried to the working cells in the body. When you get oxygen from working out it makes you appear more youthful. Working out consistently will keep you in shape and give you tight and firm skin.
